30 colossal Liz Murray quotes that will make you laugh and think

Liz Murray became homeless and basically parentless after her mother died when she was 15. From there she managed to finish high school in two years, secure a scholarship from the New York Times, get accepted into Harvard University and write her best selling memoirs. This is a perfect example that your upbringing does not have to define you. Here are ten quotes of Liz Murray to make you think and laugh.

  1. I have just one black and white photograph left of my mother when she was younger. She was 17 when it was taken and beautiful with wispy curls and eyes that shone like dark marbles.
  2. I've learned in my life that you really don't know what's possible until you're already doing it.
  3. If I had a magic wand, I would live in a building in New York, big enough so my friends, my family could all have apartments in it. We'd raise our kids in the same space and have backyard barbecues and get old and fat together.
  4. If I want to be a loving, generous, giving person, I'm not going to test the waters. I'm simply going to be a loving, generous, giving person.
  5. My mother used to sit at the foot of my bed, and she would share her dreams with me.
  6. I feel like my life has been a series of miracles. I was in every sense a lost cause.
  7. Like my mother, I was always saying, 'I'll fix my life one day.' It became clear when I saw her die without fulfilling her dreams that my time was now or maybe never.
  8. Ma was legally blind due to a degenerative eye disease she'd had since birth. This meant she was entitled to welfare, and our lives revolved around the first day of every month when her payment was due.
  9. Shortly after I turned 13, Child Welfare took me into care. I was sent to a residential centre where girls with behavioural problems were 'evaluated'. My time there comes back to me now only in flashes of smells, images and sounds.
  10. I'd been living on the streets of New York, and I was sleeping at my friends' houses, sometimes in the subway.

Conclusion

The idea of having a big apartment for all her family is also one I am thinking about quite a bit. I would like to enable all my family to live in a house and think of ways on how to achieve that. By the time of writing, I have not made a concrete plan for it. So this is a take away from this. Also if she can succeed with such a dysfunctional family than it is not only about where you come from but also about how you look at what you can achieve. Start with your body and mind to get yourself under control. Once that happens you will be more able to influence what happens around yourself. Here at marathon-crossfit I will help you do that by running faster, lifting stronger und think deeper.

For me personally, my father died of drugs at 36, my mother passed because of cancer at 52 and I have no siblings. We were never rich and I could have ended up in a very bad place, but I choose to be of value to my family and do better than my dad did.
