Overview of the Bravo Crossfit package
The Bravo CrossFit Package will equip you with the following items to pursue your goals :
This covers the most basic needs for your home gym if you currently have nothing to show for. You might want to consider a rack, plate storage and a pull-up bar to complete the picture.
Items of the Bravo Crossfit Package
This is a detailed overview of the items including some alternatives depending on your goals and needs.
1) 230LB ROGUE HG BUMPER SET
The Rogue Bravo Crossfit package comes with the following bumper plates
-
2 10LB
-
2 25LB
-
2 35LB
-
2 45LB
Bumper plates are great for any purpose. They can be used on any surface as well as outside or indoors. You can drop them from overhead continuously and they are very unlikely to chip. As an added bonus they are also less likely to injure you at contact either at the shin or when the fingers slip between the plates. The only downsides to bumper plates are design, precision, and size.
Bumper plates only come in black. If you want to easily see how much weight is being moved and add some color to your gym you can opt for the color training plates instead.
As bumper plates are made of old tires and are relatively cheaply produced there is more variance in the weight. Rogue allows for more leniency between the officially stated weight and actual weight of the plates. If you want ultimate precision down to the gram you can opt for the rogue competition plates or calibrated steel plates.
With bumper plates, you will limit the maximum load on the barbell to roughly 500 pounds. If you want to scale beyond that you need steel. For this you can use the Olympic plates, precision machines Olympic plates or calibrated steel plates.
1) ROGUE OHIO BAR
The Rogue Ohio bar forms the backbone of the Rogue portfolio. It was one of the first barbells to be manufactured in Columbus, Ohio. Since their has undergone many updates and innovations and comes now in 190,000 PSI steel with dual knurl marks. This is the best value for money barbell you can get from Rogue.
If you want to add some color to your life you can also look into the Fraser bar, Froning, or Freedom bar. You can even design your own with the Rogue Zeus software.
If you want to lean more into weightlifting have a look at the Pyrros bar which recently got IWF approved. Powerlifters might want to opt for the Thor bar.
To save money you can also have a look at the Echo bar. This is the budget option from Rogue compared to the Ohio bar. You can also snatch you up from the boneyard if you are lucky.
(2) ROGUE KETTLEBELLS
-
(1) 35LB / 1 pood
-
(1) 53LB / 1.5 pood
These Kettlebells are cast iron and ideal for swings. If you do a lot of cleans or Turkish get-ups you might want to look into the rubber-coated or competition version.
(1) SET OF ROGUE HG 2.0 COLLARS
HG Collars are the better alternative to spring collars. They will leave fewer scratch marks on your barbell and are easier to get on and off. Rogue also recently published a magnetic version which can be put on the rack.
(1) SET OF ROGUE WOOD RINGS
These American made wooden rings will cover your needs for gymnastics. They come with the necessary straps to hook them up to a rack. Take care that they will need to be placed hanging grom the ceiling to get their full value.
For some extra grip you might want to get chalk and a bag to store it in.
(1) ROGUE MEDICINE BALL
Medicine balls are great for your conditioning needs. The ball comes with a 14” diameter and can be used for wall throws, slams and Russian twists.
If you wanted a lower budget option you can also go for the rubber version of these balls.
(1) ROGUE SR-3 SPEED ROPE
The Rogue SR 3 speed rope has quickly become the standard in the CrossFit community to do your double unders. It is a relatively low-cost option to get a well-spinning jump rope into your arsenal.
If you wanted to upgrade to go even faster look at the Pro Jump rope with Aluminium handles. The steel version has recently been used at the CrossFit games.
(1) ABMAT
The Abmat takes your sit-ups to the next level. Abmat sit-ups are a key component on many WODs. Be careful as your bottom will be directly on the floor and you might get chafing. There are upgrades of the Abmat available where this won’t happen.
Pros of Bravo Crossfit package
This package is great to get started and won’t clutter your home gym with the equipment you seldom use. All items should find regular use for someone who is interested in CrossFit as they all relate to core movements. The Ohio bar provides the centerpiece which is of high quality and will last for a lifetime.
Cons of the Bravo Crossfit package
You will not be able to do your conditioning from the comfort of your own home. For this, you would need to add a concept 2 model d rower, skierg or echo bike. When you are buying for yourself you can also go a little more adventurous on the barbell itself than just playing it save. It is we unlikely that you will break your barbell and the cost won’t multiply out as in commercial settings. I would strongly recommend something that inspires you each day to push harder.
