Which home gym equipment is best for weight loss?

If you want to lose weight in your home gym focus on cardio. For this, you might not even need heavy equipment. A pair of runners and a jump rope can already go far.

Goals

Before you go into any more details for your home gym it is important that you get clarity on your goal setting. The goals in fitness mostly fall into three categories:

  • Weight loss
  • Appearance
  • Performance
Appearance and weight loss might fall into the same category for some. But appearance is a little different as it also entails gaining weight and not just losing weight. Weight loss can be achieved by diet changes only. A bubble butt or perfect biceps takes more than that. For shaping your body you will need some equipment. For weight loss, all you need is the discipline about your foot and a bit more activity than you have done before. If you are already very active and not at your dream weight you most likely need to cut back on alcohol or sugar.

Your phone

Your phone can be your best asset for weight loss. There is a big selection of free apps and plans which can make you healthier. There is even more support dor you on your journey to lose weight. Apps that I can personally recommend are Myfitnesspal and the Nike running app. If you want to go even more specific have a look at the Renaissance Periodization app. This one is especially geared towards bodybuilding. Be prepared for a lot of broccoli and chicken breasts.

In terms of eating plans, you may want to try out the keto diet or the vegan recipes from the move game-changers.

Scale

If you want to lose weight a scale is the measuring tool of choice. A simple one will do. If you are getting a new one try to get a scale that measures multiple things. Try to keep track of your weight, BMI, and body fat. See them as a combination rather than isolated performance indicators. This will make your weight loss healthier and less complicated. Only focusing on the weight itself can lead to unhealthy outcomes.

Jump rope

A jump rope is a great tool for someone who does not want to run and spent a lot of money on a home gym. You can get your cardio in and have a bit of fun. Try the boxing routines to warm up and continuously move for 20 minutes to get a really good workout in.

Pair of shoes

A good pair of running shoes will do you good if you are willing to run outdoors. I lost 15kg in half a year just by running. No change in diet or anything else. Just a marathon and not wanting to embarrass me.

Kettlebell

The kettlebell is the most compact and cheap home gym piece for strength that you can get. Pavel Tsatsouline's Simple and sinister routine is great for anyone who wants to keep in shape and strong. It is fast and easily done.

Echo bike

The Rogue echo bike is my personal favorite machine you can get. The interval setting is very efficient to shed the pounds and for me, it is more fun than a regular treadmill or bike

Treadmill

Treadmills are expensive and take up a lot of space. The motor is prone to break. Therefore, if you invest in a treadmill you might want to look in a self-propelled version. This makes it less likely to break and provides a more natural running experience.

Summary

A home gym for weight loss starts in the kitchen and with good planning. To be active to shed some pounds you need nothing fancy. A jump rope, kettlebell, and pair of shoes will do you plenty. Professional athletes might also want to invest in lifting equipment. But that is not about weight loss, but performance goals.
