Who does MYPROTEIN sponsor ?

Here you have an overview of the athletes which are sponsored by MYPROTEIN as of time of writing in 2015 including Bios, Pictures, videos and social media statistics. If you ever wanted to get sponsored by a nutrition brand this will help you to get the gist of what you have to bring to the table to be considered and what you have to do.

Simeon Panda

Simeon Panda is a powerlifter and Bodybuilder who has been signed up by MYPROTEIN in 2014 to promote their brand and products. His website claims that he is a natural bodybuilder and I would personally agree that his physique is impressive.

He has been featured in Muscle Mag, The Today Show, Train and even has one of the product stacks of the UK supplement provider named after him. There were even some converse shoes branded with him, which I personally think is pretty cool. Don't bother with the competition, it ended in 2014.

He has 51.000 followers on Twitter, his own clothing brand and IPhone cases (Just Lift). His youtube channel has 150K+ subscribers and Instagram even tops that number with 1.5m followers. The last training video of his from 03.11.2015 as of writing is a 220kg by 11 reps Deadlift. I personally struggle to lift 180kg one time. The top videos on his youtube channel are either him training or bodybuilding motivational videos. He is originally from London and weighs around 100kg, depending on his form and according to his LA Barber he has his mother's beard. He seems to have good friends and has fun with them who are all in the fitness industry. The cynics amongst you might say its staged, but i like to believe it is genuine. Have a look yourself. I like his attitude towards "Be the best I can be". I believe that too.

Harrison Twins

The Harrison Twins, Owen and Lewis are special in the Fitness industry as they are muscly, chiseled twins. Originally from the UK, same as Simeon Panda, they started their sports career in football. After not making it to the top leagues they decided to get into the fitness industry. While Lewis went straight for the kill, Owen became part of the Royal Marines commando, to fullfil his life dream. Once done, he joined his brother.

Theri website mainly aims at promoting their tour dates and transformation programs. The transformation programs seems to be mianly focused on how to get bodyfat, so the approach seems to be a bit different from Simon Panda's one.

Their Youtube channel has 9K subscribers as of writing and their twitter Account has 500 followers. Funnily enough there also seems to be a pair of Harrison twins who play Basketball.

Benedikt Magnusson

Benedikt Magnusson has one of the biggest powerlifting totals (1042.5kg) to be ever recorded and was the world record holder for the deadlift for a while, until Eddie Hall took the spot beating him by three kilos to 463kg.

He weighs roughly 170kg at 1.83cm and was born in Iceland. He won the Strongman competition in his home country several times. With a personal best squat at 420kg and a bench press of 220kg he is a force to be reckoned with.

Terry Hollands

Terry Hollands 2010.JPG

Terry Hollands stands 1.99m tall and weighs just the same as Benedikt Magnusson who originates from Kent. He is one of the few englishmen who has been on the podium of the world's strongest man competition. While the name might suggest dutch ancestory, he is as english as it can get (just watch one of his videos and you will understand).

He started out playing rugby and doing Judo in his younger years until he got an injury (which seems to be a common story of how people get into moving heavy things around). From 2004 for onwards he followed a training regimen which enbaled him to feats like a 435kg Deadlift in 2011.

His Twitter account has roughly 30.000 followers, Youtube comes in at 3.100 subscribers and what makes him special in the strongman world is his consistency. He made it to the Strongman final 9 times so far, getting on the podium three times. One of his biggest successes was to tie the Strongman Champoins League with Zydrunas Lavickas.

Kirk Miller

Kirk Miller made it on the cover of Men's health and Men's Fitness. His website is quite similar to the one of the Harrison Twins promoting body trnasformations and himself as a personal trainer to achieve a better physique.

He is sponsored by MYPROTEIN, better Bodies and physique elite. His website does not show any prices for his services as of writing. What is interesting about him is that he is a quite small guy at 80 to 85kg, yet still pulling 200kg Deadlifts for repetitions. This is something I am definetly aspring to, as he also looks like someone who could run a marathon in a decent time (which I doubt for the guys mentioned so far, sorry).

Kirk started out in soccer and also fell victim to a couple of injuries at Coventry City FC. Realising that it was not meant to be and after lack of opportunities his dream of becoming a star in the premier league did not materialise. He worked as a plumber until in 2011 he had his breakthrough geeting the cover story of Men's health.

Kirk’s love of health and fitness began at a very young age when he would play any sport possible from soccer and athletics to pretty much anything that involved running around with friends. However, it was soccer where he quickly excelled and was his first true sporting love. He dreamt of becoming a professional soccer player and was overjoyed when he signed as a young professional for Coventry City FC.  It was during this time that Kirk was first introduced to the gym and after a mixture of recurring injuries, lack of opportunities and quite simply not being good enough his football dream was ended.

Alexander Elebro

Elebro first draw attention to himself when the scandinavian Body Magazine put him on its cover in December 2013. It lead to the most sales of the magazine in their 15 years of publishing.

With a background of swimming, cycling and running he is a versatile athlete with success in several installations of the crossfit games on europe regional level and in the States. With his team, Crossfit Solid, they came 5th in the 2015 games. He also won the Czech Beast 2014 and came second in the Swedish Fitness League.

He has 51 subscribers on his youtube channel, mainly used to post his Crossfit Open Wods. His Instagram page has 14.000 follower and twitter comes in at 24.

Rocky Fielding

Originally named Michael but soon to be nicknamed "The Rock" by his father due ot his 10lbs weight at borth, it was a short throw of a stone to be named Rocky in his boxing career.

Born 1987 in Liverpool Rocky stands 187cm tall and competes in the super midlleweight class in boxing after dropping a weight class from his early days in boxing. His boxing career started in 2010 and he now holds the WBA Intercontinental super middleweight title, making his way up the ranks via the English & Commonwealth titles in the same weight class.

Tom Corntwaite

Tom Corntwaite mountain running

Tom Corntwaite is the first long distance runner in this MYPROTEIN athletes line up. Ireally appreciate that the brand is going down this road to help long distance runners to better their best, as I am one myself. Currently I am focusing on getting stronger and hopefully getting some abs until mid of 2016, but then I will be back to attack the Dublin Marathon and get under 3:00:00.

Tom's personal bests come in at

  • 5k 14:32
  • 10k 30.04 (My PB is 39:52)
  • Half Marathon 66:04 ( Me 89:28)
  • Marathon 2:23:53 (Me 3:58, yes i stink...)

Tom has represented Great Britiain on a number of occasions in the mountain running scene. Together with the nutrition optimisation from MYPROTEIN he wants to focus on becoming faster at short distances and on the last 10km of the Marathon to up his bests. I wish him all the best, as I know how hard the training for running is (maybe even a bit more taxing than muscle stuff).

Tomas Klic

Tomas Klic

Tomas Klic, who is situated in the Czech Republic, started his fitness career in ice hockey which was brutally stopped by a serios back injury. After this he discovered the weight room and never looked back since.

His impressive physique led him to win the Arnold classic in 2013 from where is career is a fitness model and certified personal trainer took off. He is studying to become a pharmacist and it is great to see, that someone younger than me is so inspiring and aspiring. His youtube channel and website adress his home country, the Czech Republic, and english speakers who are inrested in him.

He comse in at 178cm height with 88kg competing in the IFBB. 821 Twotter followers, 6.000 Instagram followers and 5.000 youtube subscribers do the rest for his little czech empire.

Jonny Mellor

  • Leading Britain's long distance runners
  • Training for Rio next year
  • 3:58 mile
  • 5k 13:31
  • 10k 28:41 Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational
  • 62:59 Half marathon (Current british record Mo Farrah at 59:22)
  • Break 28 minutes

Jonny Mellor is one of Britain's leading long diatcne runner's. His current aim is to get below the 28 minute mark for the 10km distance and prepare for a good performance at the olympic games in Rio in 2016. His current personal bests are:

  • 3:58 mile
  • 13:31 5k
  • 10k 28:41 @ Payton Jordan Caridnal Invitational in the US
  • 62:59 Half marathon (Current british record Mo Farrah at 59:22)

MYPROTEINs aim is to support him on this journey by providing the nutrients to make him train longer and harder. He also üprovides training plans based on his personal experiences for beginners.

Conclusion

MyProtein was smart in picking who they sponsor. For each of their product ranges they have a fit in personality and physique. Simeon Panda for bodybuilding, Kirk Miller for Lean Muscle, Terry Holland & Benedikt Magnusson for strongmen, Kara Paris Haliwell for female crossfitters, Elebro for male crossfitters, Corntwaite and Mellor for long distance running in various forms. With Alon Gabbay and Tomas Klic they are entering the German and Czech market to further their impact on continental europe.

If they wanted to go far and beyond and contribute even further to the profits of the hut group I think it would be beneficial for them to sign up an american athlete out of crossfit (Ben Smith might be a candidate, as Rich Froning might be a bit expensive) and bodybuilding (Simeon Panda already seems to have a working relationship with Ulisses, however he might already be on running contracts he can not get out of / does not want to get out of).

What entirely lacks in their go to market strategy is an average bloke who did not make it to the cover of men's health yet or won a strongman competition. Wouldn't it be impressive if MYPROTEIN could show that with the help of their product and produce anyone with a nine to five job can make it ? Especially as their price range is targeting the average joe.

If you wanted to get sponsored by MYPROTEIN there are several ways on their website to draw attention to yourself, like entering their challenges to become an athlete. One example is to beat Kirk Miller for the most bodyweight squats in 90 seconds. He comes in with a whopping 40 ( I might give that a try). I'd say if you approach them, you already should have a following so that it is worth their while. Check the social statistics for the different athletes in this post and their profiles to get an idea, what you have to bring to the table to get sponsored by MYPROTEIN.
