Powerlifting for aesthetics

Powerlifting for aesthetics

Powerlifting, weightlifting or CrossFit don’t really matter for aesthetics. To get to your six pack you have to eat less or crank up your workload threefold. It is simple, but it is mainly about diet and how much you do for aesthetics. It is a lot less about how you do it.

What is your why

Before we go into the details of powerlifting for aesthetics, let me ask you a couple of questions:

  • Why do you want to lift
  • Why do you want to change your body
  • What happens when you do
  • What happens if you don’t

These questions are essential for your personal success and failure. Research shows that people who write down their goals and reflect on them are more likely to make them a reality. When was the last time you did this? Can you even remember? If you can not it is time to get a pen and paper and start. Many people go about their lives like this:

  • What do I want
  • How do I get it
  • Why do I want it

Good start but this way you will be chasing your own tail. What you want changes hundreds of times a day depending on what you do, who you are with and where you are. Making what you want the center of attention will spread your resources thin and scatter your time between too many activities. Frustration and misery will be the consequences. Something interesting happens when you flip the running order of these questions on their head:

  • Why do you want something
  • How do you get it
  • What needs to be done

This way you will focus on why you are doing something. Your innermost desires will become the driver of your actions rather than your surroundings. Your thoughts and actions will become more connected and success will follow. If you want to k is how this works on a psychological level read Daniel Kahneman's thinking fast and slow. Simon Sinek's TED talk on the golden circle will change your life.

It all starts with better habits and rituals which will get more done in less time. A good way to form these is to keep a journal. I have been using the self journal from best self for two years now. Since then my marriage and salary have dramatically improved. You can check it out via this link.

What do you mean with aesthetics

When I hear aesthetics I am always interested in what that actually means. What is the standard you are describing with this? Most likely when you use it with bodybuilding or powerlifting you are thinking of a muscular body with a six-pack.

If that is the case I have to disappoint you neither bodybuilding or powerlifting by itself will get you this type of physique. You are better off learning about your body and get some cooking skills. Looking like Arnold has a lot more to do with what you do in the kitchen than what you do in the gym. Genetics might also help but are more often than not used as a cheap excuse.

Powerlifting

Powerlifting is the sport of the total. Your total consists of three lifts. These three lifts are the bench press, squat, and deadlift. For each lift, you get three attempts to establish your best weight. The best attempt for each lift will be counted towards your total. Based on your total you will be ranked against your competitors.

A big difference in lifting weights in the gym is that you will be judged. Three referees will observe your actions from three different angles and decide whether you performed according to the standards. Two out of three judges have to agree for the attempt to qualify. You need at least one qualifying attempt for each lift to make it on the board. Otherwise, you will be disqualified.

Diet

If you think of aesthetics as having a six pack you need to work on your diet. You need to know how many calories you can eat a day. Some hacks on how to get your body into fat burning mode also help. After this, you need a strict regime and follow it for a couple of months. Good sources to get some strategies are the Renaissance diet and website and the 4-hour body book.

Powerlifting for aesthetics

Powerlifting helps but is not the main driver. The main component to make it on the front cover is your diet and how well you can keep it under control. Know your macros and calorie intake and stick to them religiously. Not a fun life, but you will get your results.
