Why powerlifting is good for you

Why powerlifting is god for you

Powerlifting is good for you as it helps to build strength and commitment. This sport will teach you to be humble and patient to achieve greatness.

What is your why

Before we go I tot the details of why powerlifting is good for you, let me ask you a couple of questions:

  • Why do you want to powerlift
  • Why do you want to change your body
  • What happens when you do
  • What happens if you don’t

These questions are essential to your personal success and well being. When was the last time you really sat down and thought about where you want to go in life? Research shows that people who write down and reflect on their goals are more likely to achieve them. Many people go about their lives like this:

  • What do I want
  • How do I get it
  • Why do I want it

This is a great way to vanish into obscurity. When you focus on what you want you will spread your resources thin and scatter your time between too many activities. What you want changes hundreds of times a day depending on who you are with, what you do and where you are. Running in a hundred directions will exhaust you without ever reaching the goal. Something interesting happens when you flip the running order of these questions:

  • Why do you want something
  • How do you get it
  • What needs to be done

This way your innermost desires and most fulfilling drivers will become the center of attention. Your thoughts and actions will become more connected and as a result success more likely. If you want to know how this works on a psychological level read Daniel Kahneman's thinking fast and slow. Simon Sinek's TED talk on the golden circle will change your life.

The most impact on my life to get better was to start using a journal. The best one I have found so far is the self journal from best self. You can check it out via this link.

Powerlifting

Powerlifting is the sport of the total. Your total is the sum of three lifts. These three lifts are the bench press, squat, and deadlift. For each lift, you get three attempts. The best attempts will get counted towards your total. Based on your total you are ranked against the other competitors.

A big difference to lifting in the gym is that you will be judged. Three referees decide whether your lifts have been performed according to standard by observing you from different angles. Two out of three have to approve for the lift to qualify. You need one qualifying attempt for each lift to make it on the board.

Powerlifting is about the biggest number out of these three lifts. Often people forget that having only a big squat or deadlift is not enough to perform well.

Why powerlifting is good for you

Powerlifting is good for you as it keeps you active. If you don’t like exercising outdoors, you think yoga is for hippies and CrossFit for jerks you might as well end up at powerlifting.

Powerlifting will teach you patience and consistency to reach great results. This is a life skill which will transfer well to any hard times you might have in your life. As a bonus, you will also be built like a tank after a few years of clanging and banging in the gym.
