What to have in home gym
This is a short overview of what you should have in your
home gym. If you want to go into more detail check out the related articles section.
Goals
What you want to have in your
home gym highly depends on your goals. It is a good idea to start in a commercial gym and try what you like before buying anything. A monthly membership usually comes at the cost of a
jump rope, so make use of it. Just be careful to not sign up for a year right away which the gyms usually want to drive you to. They live off unused subscriptions.
Kettlebell
Jump rope
A
jump rope is probably the cheapest option for weight loss out there. While it can be tricky to use it at
home because of space constraints, it works wonders for your coordination and endurance. A good
jump rope will last a lifetime and might even save you the gym subscription.
Rack, Barbell and plates
The next step up is a
rack including all the extra material to lift heavy. Spend some extra money to get a quality
rack including a
barbell and
plates. You will enjoy your gym more and be safe. Once you think in these dimensions it makes sense to start taking notes and have a finance plan to address all your needs.
Echo bike
The
echo bike from Rogue is the best value for money of its kind in the market. It is compact and a little more interesting than a regular cardio bike. Compared to a
treadmill it uses up less space and is easier to maintain. You will definitely burn some calories on this.
Treadmill
A
treadmill is a classic of
home gyms. Most of them come with a motor which makes some costly. I am personally not a huge fan, as I think a pair of runners also does the trick. Unless you live in a very hot or cold climate or surrounded by heavy traffic. In these scenarios, you can look at a self-propelled
treadmill.
Summary
Whatever you want to have in your
home gym, make first sure that you are actually going to use it. The rest is a question of space, budget and personal taste.
