Runners who are like Forrest Gump

I personally love the movie Forrest Gump. My favorite scene is when Forrest proposes to Jenni, she refuses and Forrest says "I am not a smart man, but i know what love is". Forrest plays ping, pong, becomes a war hero, owns parts of apple and also runs. He is not the only who crossed a nation on foot. Here are some real life examples of great individuals who run to forget or to further their cause.

Terry Fox

In 1980 Terry Fox started to run across Canada with one amputated leg. The leg had been amputated in 1977 afer he had osteosarcoma. He managed to cover 5.373 kilometers or one marathon a day until he had to quit due to a returning cancer in his lunges. He died in 1981 of his cancer but his legacy lives on.

Nowadays he is a Canadian national hero. Each year the Terry Fox foundation gets runner all across the world, but especially in Canada to run for charity. Terry set out to collect 1 million Canadian dollar for cancer. The Terry Fox Foundation has been able to raise 600 million Canadian Dollar so far and it is still counting up.

 Sean Conway

If you think only the guys from overseas run literally cross country you are mistaken. Sean Conway is currently attempting to run the whole of the British island. His first attempt ended, because he twisted his knee whilst taking a selfie. The former photograph now works as a motivational speaker, when not running or swimming around the island. There will be a program about him on the discovery channel.

 Jesper Olsen

If you want to take it to real extremes meet Jesper Olsen. Very likable from the video he was the second person to circumnavigate the earth by foot. He also did from North to south, rather than from west to east. Unfortunately his last program did not raise the funds he wanted to gather. Still a remarkable story made in Denmark.
