Squat rack with pulley system
There are mainly two ways in the market of going about a rack with a lat pull down. Either you have a solid lat pulldown including the weight plates build or attached to the rack or a flimsy pulley system that uses the plates you already have. If you have space and budget go for the sturdy version. If you don't go for the makeshift solution as some lat pulls are better than no lat pulls whatsoever. How powerlifters tick: Interview with Avi Silverberg
I am only a beginner in the world of powerlifting compared to Avi. He has been lifting for more than 10 years and is involved with the Canadian national team. You can find his views and coaching tips at
Powerliftingtechnique. He approached me recently to comment on the differences between the sumo and conventional deadlift and he was kind enough to participate in a little interview. Here are the results.
I find it very interesting how simple his approaches are and the numbers are still impressive. A good cut will always make your total look more impressive. But see yourself in this interview ad maybe check out Avi's business for support if you are somwehere in Canada.

Squat rack vs half rack
Both will get you strong. If you have the space and budget go for the full rack. If you would have to wait for 2 years to Invest in a full rack and can start training now in a half rack, do that. Apart from that the bigger and stronger you are, the bigger your equipment should be.
