Is 5x5 workout best for mass?

The   5x5 workout  is suboptimal if your main goal is adding mass. To achieve your mass gains first and furthermost is a caloric surplus based on natural resources. Abs and bigger muscles are mainly made in the kitchen and the gym only supports the growth. Programs which are more suited to muscle gains are German Volume Training or Jim Stoppanis bodybuilding template. The   power block  is, in my opinion, an outdated design unless you really have no space available whatsoever.

If you have reliable data to go by, calculate half of your one-rep max and get going. Modulate according to how you feel. If there is no body of data run Stronglifts 5x5 first for half a year and take it from there.
