What are the risks of crossfit ?
The most recent crossfit hype gets people into the gym in the US by the thousands. It created and still creates new standards and a growing community which fills stadiums. I personally welcome the spike in physical activity and feeling of being empowered when doing crossfit. But there are risks attached to it and the daily staff chat in the kitchen shows that the "not so fit" are prone to injury when joining a crossfit outfit.

Stronglifts 5x5 Diet
The best source is Mehdi the man himself. He worte an excellent article in my opinion where he outlines simple rules of nutrition. In the following I'll give you my insight in how applied to my daily life.

How to lose weight like a boss
There are many schemes, diets, training plans and all other kind of stuff out there which are complex, hard to follow, expensive or simply stupid (apples are bad for you WTF?!). If you want to lose 15kg in half a year like I did, follow these no nonsense tips which have worked for me. No jojo effect, simple to implement, no extra money needed, you're welcome. Ok admittedly what you need is time and commitment, but probably you already showed that to the wrong things to get yourself where you are now and you searched for content like this post to change, so again, you're welcome.

Stronglifts 5x5 for crossfitters
In total i think that Stronglifts 5x5 is a great program for beginning crossfitters who are aged, before they go into the hardcore WODs from the open, the games or generally into olympic weightlifting. This opinion is based on the facts that the powerlifts used are less technically challenging than the olympic lifts and I think you should build a stringbase before going into the dynamic strength efforts of olympic lifts to avoid that you hurt yourself.

Jim Wendler 5/3/1 Diet
I am currently struggling to get my own act on diet together and have to improve. This post is to help you to get a picture of what is out there and save you 1 to three days of research combined with my personal experiences. To make a long story short: Get the obvious stuff in your diet sorted like cutting down on alcohol, having a daily routine of meals and getting to the gym regularly. Then move on to the more complicated world of paleo diets, supplements, and calorie counting, if you want to become a professional athlete.

Stronglifts 5x5 for runners
This is a post to help you decide whether you want to do Stronglifts 5x5 whilst preparing for a race in running. If you are an average athlete I would recommend it to prevent injury if you have the time to spare. If your overall goal is general health and fitness this is a great program to run next to a three day running plan. If your main goal is a very fast race time, you might want to step away from this idea. If you want the details of the program itself and the results it can provide please see this Stronglifts review, as I will not describe the program itself in this post. Always consult a doctor before deciding for a special exercise program or diet.

Adidas Powerlift 2.0: 1 year review
The Adidas Powerlift 2.0 is a shoe which I have been using for a year now. I have the older version, but the 2.0 Update is just an optical one, making it available in more colours and the strap more fancy. All in all this is a great shoe for someone starting out with weightlifting who is not doing the volume, high load or does not have the money to justify a purchase of an Adipower or Nike Romaleo shoe.

Jim Wendler Body weight Accessory work
This is the explanation for a bodyweight template I came up with to accompany the Jim Wendler 5/3/1 program. As I personally do run marathons the boring but big accessory work does not really appeal to me, because every kilo/pound that I put on, I have to carry around for 42km. That does not necessarily help my time. So here is the attempt at squaring the circle for increased strength at a minimum increase of body weight. Always consult a doctor before doing exercises.

Jim Wendler 5/3/1 Joker Sets explained
Joker Sets are being used in the Jim Wendler 5/3/1 weightlifting program to auto-regulate good and bad days. You will increase your top set by 5 - 10% in weight and aim to complete the repetition maximum for the day. Joker Sets have been brought in by Wendler in his iterations of the Wendler 5/3/1 program as powerlifters criticized it for its lack of autoregulation and is published in Beyond 5/3/1.

Stronglifts 5x5 for Teenagers ?
All in all I would only recommend Stronglifts 5x5 in the late teenage years. Parents should be open to the needs of their children, inform themselves and make a decision based on facts which take into account the needs of everybody involved equally based on merit, rather than authority. Different approaches will most likely lead to tension in the household and resources being wasted needlessly (been there, done that). I hope this article is informative and helpful, if your family is faced with the decision of allowing a teenager to go on Stronglifts or not. Please always consult a doctor before deciding for a program. This article covers the dynamics and concerns within a family rather than the program itself. The program is safe and works and I have done it myself and you will find details in my review of Stronglifts 5x5.
