Can powerlifting make you big

Can powerlifting make you big?

Powerlifting will not get you big by itself. You will need the diet to back it up. Eat big to get big. Powerlifting can take care of these calories turning into muscle instead of jelly.

What is your why

Before we go I tot the details of whether powerlifting can make you big, let me ask you a couple of questions:

  • Why do you want to be big
  • Why do you want to powerlift
  • What happens when you do
  • What happens if you don’t

These questions will make the difference between your success and failure. Research shows that people who reflect on their goals and write them down are more likely to achieve them. So sit down and start thinking and writing. Many people go about their lives like this:

  • What do I want
  • How do I get it
  • Why do I want it

This is a pretty good way to get insane. What you want changes hundreds of times a day. If you make this the center of attention you will spread your resources thin and scatter your time. Chasing what you want all time around will set you up to be a consumer rather than a producer. Something interesting happens when you flip the order of these questions on their head:

  • Why do you want something
  • How do you get it
  • What needs to be done

This will put your innermost desires and goals on center stage. Your thoughts and actions will become more connected. This will make it more likely for you to succeed. If you want to know how this works on a psychological basis read Daniel Kahneman's thinking fast and slow. Simon Sinek's TED talk on the golden circle will change your life.

Powerlifting

Powerlifting is the sport of the total. This total consists of three lifts. These lifts are the bench press, squat, and deadlift. For each lift, you get three attempts to establish your maximum. The best attempt of each lift gets summed up into your total.

The bench press usually contributes 20% to your total. The squat and deadlift come in at 40% each. The big difference to lifting in the gym is that you get judged by three referees. These referees sit at different angles from you to see whether you performed the lifts according to the standards of the federation you are competing in. You need two out of three referees to approve you lift to count it towards your total.

Powerlifting sets you up to get big. The bigger you are the more you pull. However, the main factor to get big is your body. Feed it and take good care of it and you will grow.

How to get big

Getting big is a function of eating more calories than you burn. This extra energy will be turned into tissue. Depending on how active you are this energy will either be turned into fat or muscle. This is why bodybuilders work out like miles and eat like horses.

Check out how many calories your body needs a day and double it. Then work like a horse to earn these extra calories so that you don’t look like a blob.

Can powerlifting make you big

Powerlifting itself will not make you big, your diet will. Eat big three get big. Powerlifting will help to get you in the right mindset to get bigger. Your diet will make the biggest impact.
