Overview of the 10 econ package

The 10 Econ package is one of three packages aimed at fitting out a CrossFit box with the minimum of great Rogue quality products to start. The shortened list is

For a full set to do most classic CrossFit WODs. With this set, you can train 10 people in parallel and still have some spare equipment for beginners or advanced athletes who have to be trained separately.

Items of the 10 econ package

This is a bit more detail on the various options in this package.

(2) 1000LB ROGUE HG Bumper sets for a total of 2000LB of Bumpers - You choose the weights you want up to 2000LB

Bumper plates can be used outdoors and indoors. They are also very forgiving on fingers and toes compared to Olympic plates and calibrated steel plates. Compared to competition plates they are a lot more cost efficient. The only downside with them is that they take up more space on the bar. If you have a lot of people in your gym who can deadlift more than 400 pounds, you might to get one set of steel plates. In most cases, there will be no need for this.

(5) Ohio Bar - Black Zinc Shaft, Bright Zinc Sleeves - 28.5MM Bar with Dual Knurl - Guaranteed for Life!

The Ohio bar is the backbone of the Rogue barbell portfolio. This is one of the first barbells which Rogue started to produce themselves. This bar is the all-round workhorse for any occasion. Alternatives are the echo bar when you want to save some money or the Fraser and Froning versions, which can add a little color and motivation to your gym. With the new Zeus engine, you can also create your own design for your Rogue barbell.

(5) Rogue Echo Bars

The Echo bar is the budget barbell from Rogue. It has a different finish to the Ohio bar which makes it more susceptible to corrosion. It’s still a solid price of metal which will do in most scenarios.

(1) ROGUE Bella Bar - 25.0MM Women’s Bar with Dual Knurl

The Rogue Bella bar is the female version of the Rogue Ohio bar. It comes in with a lower weight of 15kg and smaller diameter of 25 mm instead of 28.5. This barbell is designed to the international standards for powerlifting and weightlifting. Alternative models are the Davidsdottir and Toomey bar if you wanted a bit more color and inspiration for your establishment.

(3) ROGUE 15LB Technique Bar - The Go to bar for technique training, the same distance between collars as competition bars

The technique bar is ideal to teach the Olympic lifts to beginners or refine the technique of seasoned athletes. You can combine them with a technique plate to have the same starting point of the ground while having less weight to work with.

(1) 500LB Rogue Kettlebell Set - Choose your own variants up to 500LB

These Kettlebells will be taken from Rogue cast iron assortment which is color-coded to distinguish between weights. If you mainly do swings with these Kettlebells this is a good choice. If you also do a lot of Turkish get-ups, cleans and snatches you might want to look at rubber coated or competition Kettlebells. These will be easier on the skin around the arms.

(15) Sets of Spring Collars

Spring collars are the most common collars worldwide. You will find them in any gym around the world. While they are cheap and cheerful and do the job they have two main downsides. Not everyone is able to use them probably if they lack the grip strength and they have a tendency to get scratches on your barbells.

(6) Set of ROGUE Wood Rings

A set of wooden Rings can be used for all kinds of gymnastics movements to keep your clients fit. The Rogue wooden rings come with the necessary straps to attach to a rack or wall mount. For more advanced rung techniques it might be necessary to install them hanging from the ceiling. For this, you might need extra equipment.

(10) Rogue Medicine Ball - Can choose the weight up to 20LB

The Rogue medicine balls can be used for conditioning classes. You can do wall balls, slams and coordination training with them. Alternatives are the Rogue slam balls and the rubber medicine balls.

(6) Games Multi Side Boxes with 20" / 24" / 30" Sides

The multi side boxes are a tested standard. You can use them in three ways and thereby have some variety in the height you are jumping too. The only downside of these boxes is that they are not stackable. This means they might take up a little more space than necessary.

(3) S-1 Squat/Press Stands

The Rogue S1 is the smallest squat stand you can get from Rogue. This is a good option for light squats or for very seasoned athletes who know their way around a barbell and squat stand. For beginners and heavy squats on a regular basis, you might be better off to use a rack instead. The M4 Fortis is a great option which is not too expensive and still very stable.

(5) Rogue Flat Utility Bench

With the utility benches, you can do your bench presses, dumbbell rows, and many other exercises. Especially anything that is performed one-legged can be done with one leg up in the bench. To have even more variation you might also consider the adjustable bench from Rogue as an alternative.

(5) Rogue SR-3 Speed Rope

The Rogue SR-3 Speed rope has quickly become the standard for double unders in the CrossFit community. The handles of this rope spin and are made with bushing. This makes this rope ideal for speed. It might not be the best variation for trick jumps.

(6) Abmat

The Abmat supercharges your sit-ups for better core development. Abmat sit-ups are a long term must in any CrossFit regime. As an alternative, you can get the Xtreme wrap or upgraded Abmat design to protect your clients from too much chafing.

(5) Concept 2 Model D with PM5 Rower

The concept 2 model D rower puts you in the position to offer a low impact full body workout. Used for a half marathon in the CrossFit games, these rowers have stood the test of time in many gyms across the country. The PM5 monitor gives you the option to have races and link machines virtually together for that purpose. An alternative to the model D rower is the model E. This rower is bigger and makes it easier for taller or rehabbing athletes to get on and off.

Pros of the 10 Econ package

The 10 Econ package provides you with the infrastructure, plates and conditioning equipment to comfortably run Crossfit classes for up to ten athletes. You will have some options between different barbells to accommodate beginners, males, and females alike. With a big collection of bumper plates, you will be ready for any weather.

Cons of the 10 econ package

The spring collars are not always the best option as they can hurt your barbells in the long run. Having 5 echo bars and 5 Ohio bars might raise some eyebrows in class about who gets which. You will also have to think about pull up stations as this package alone will not provide enough to run a class of ten.

Summary of the 10 econ package

The 10 Econ is a solid option which mixes different bars to save you some money while still being able to service ten at a time. Compared to the Alpha packages you get less infrastructure with your purchase. It still covers all the basics to open a CrossFit box, if you take care of some pull-up bars.
