Bumper plates are a great option for your home gym as you can use them outdoors and inside. You can also drop them from overhead without breaking them or the floor. Made from old rubber these plates are hard to destroy by hand and will be forgiving on your shins and fingers. The only bad points are the design, precision, and size of these.
As they are made of old rubber they only come in black. Rogue recently updated their portfolio with the RR plates which have some color mixed into them while still being not too expensive. But if you wanted to add some color to your life the competition plates or calibrated steel plates might be a better choice.
In terms of precision, bumper plates allow for more tolerance in production to keep the cost down. This means that the actual weight of the plate is more likely to be different from what is stated on the plate. The variance is usually up to kilogram up or down on bumpers. If that is not acceptable the competition and steel plates are the better option as they are precision manufactured and only vary by a few grams.
The last point is that bumper plates take up more space on the bar and in your gym compared to steel plates. This becomes especially relevant when you regularly more than 400 to 500 pound around. To deadlift more you can buy some additional steel plates.
(1) ROGUE OHIO BAR
The Rogue Ohio bar build the backbone of the Rogue barbell portfolio and was one of the first ones to be produced in Columbus Ohio. This is the time tested workhorse you can get from Rogue. It will cover all your lifting needs at a reasonable cost.
If you wanted to add some color and inspiration to your life also look at the Froning and Fraser bar. With the Zeus system you can even design your own barbell. For those interested in weightlifting I would recommend the Pyrros bar. Powerlifters might have a peek at the Thor bar.
(1) SET OF ROGUE HG 2.0 COLLARS
The Rogue HG collars are one step up from Spring collars. These will keep your plates in place while you do the heavy lifting. They are easy to get on and off and leave fewer scratches on your bar than the springs.
(1) SET OF ROGUE WOOD RINGS
The American made rogue wood rings will get you started on your gymnastics journey. They come with the necessary straps to be attached to a rack. To get their full value you want to hang them from the ceiling. Be aware that you will need good anchors for this which won’t come with the shipment.
Pros of the Rogue Stealth package
This package is the absolute minimum while still not compromising on the Ohio Bar. Definitely easy on your purse for good quality
Cons of the Rogue Stealth package
I am not a huge fan of this pack, to be honest. You have to make up your mind whether you want to do CrossFit or just want to buy a bar and bumpers. If you want to do CrossFit for the same amount of me ey go for a package that has more moving pieces and compromises on the collars, bar, and bumpers. The SoCal complete is the better choice for you. if you only want to get ready with a bar go for the Alpha bar and bumper set. The last option is to increase the budget.
Alternatives to the Rogue Stealth package
Summary of the Rogue Stealth package
The stealth package is a good package of just happen to have all of the other things except the ones listed for your CrossFit setup. If you start from scratch the Socal is probably the better option for the same budget. If you only want bumpers and a bar go for the Alpha bar and bumper set.
