What you can learn from my vienna marathon goals

This time I will actually sit down and make a plan on how to achieve my goal, rather than just show up and do my best as I did in my first marathon or completely overdo it like in my second. Funnily enough my result without over pacing was better than in my second marathon.

Runners who are like Forrest Gump

I personally love the movie Forrest Gump. My favorite scene is when Forrest proposes to Jenni, she refuses and Forrest says "I am not a smart man, but i know what love is". Forrest plays ping, pong, becomes a war hero, owns parts of apple and also runs. He is not the only who crossed a nation on foot. Here are some real life examples of great individuals who run to forget or to further their cause.

How you can lift 400kg with no relevant knowledge or training

You might wonder that this sounds impossible and strange, maybe even dangerous. You might say to yourself “On steroids everything is possible” or “With the right lever I can lift anything”. This is all true, but I did it with free weights, no special lever and no steroids. It took me from June 28th 2014 until 2nd to April 2015, but it was worth it. I totaled a powerlift record of squat, bench and deadlift at 407.5kg compiled of a 122.5kg press, 120kg Squat and 165kg deadlift using the Stronglift 5x5 program.

The role of steroids in marathon and crossfit

One of the most prominent examples of doping in sports is Lance Armstrong's rise and fall in the biking hemisphere. When egos and PRs are at stake, how far are athletes willing to go ? And for what ? I am personally natural with a few minor exceptions, but I wondered what is out there and how other athletes think about the use of steroids in marathons and crossfit. Here is some of what I found.

How to ensure good form for benching, squatting & deadlifting

I have been lifting for a year now and I am far from perfect. I went up to 137.5 kg on the squat with a cheat squat. I realized a bit late that the form was weak and did not provide me with the gains I wanted. Proof was my weak performances on the thruster, where I just could not build up speed. A squat of 137.5 kg and that I had to scale Fran at the same time just did not add up and  I went back down to grind my way back up from 80kg with great results. My squat felt never more powerful at 102.5kg.

My first crossfit Danny

In March I amped up my game in the new gym I am a member of, as they do not think that somebody who gives his all in the gym is weird. I did my first crossfit Danny and managed to do 2 rounds + 30 box jumps and one pull up. Great workout combined with Annie as a warm up.

How to mentally prepare for a marathon

A marathon is not just a challenge for your body, but also for your mind. Inevitably you will push yourself beyond the limits as with normal running templates you will not go the full distance in your preparation. I have done two marathons so far, one under 4 hours. I am going to do two more this year, so here are some tips, if you are just starting out, as the bodily readiness is as important as the mental.
