Crossfit equipment: Wooden rings

Never would I have imagined to own a pait of wooden rings myself one day. I've chopped wood in the past and did a lot of Judo, but the idea was just odd to me, when i read the first recommendation for them in the crossfit Journal to do the workout of the day called Elizabeth. Now I must say, I should've gotten more use out of them earlier in my life.

Where to run in Maynooth ? 5 - 7 km canal straight

This is an easy and enjoable run along the canal which will bring you to 5 - 7km. Again I would recommend running it before dark, as you might trip. Also not really recommended late at weekends, as you might bump into drunken teenagers hanging around bon bridge / the playground. Really simple

  1. Get to bond bridge or the bridge leading to the glenroyal and make your way down to the canal
  2. Go the oppposite direction of Carton house, direction Kilcock
  3. Follow the canal until you reach the lock
  4. Turn around and run home

Nice and easy with some sprint opportunities. ideal for fartlek or tempo work.

Enjoy!

Where to run in Maynooth ? 10k Carton loop

If you want to have a nice weekend run in Maynooth here is an option for you. I use this route a lot, but would only recommend it at daytimes as the bit running along the canal can be dangerous with limited sight. I'll begin descriptions from the parking lot at Lidl, but you basically can hop in anywhere along the route, as it is a loop.

  1. Cross the road and run alongside Straffan on your left hand until you make it to the T junction
  2. Turn right, leave SPAR on your left hand site and cross bond bridge passing maynooth train station to your right until you come to the gates of the old campus
  3. Turnleft into the campus and then keep right in the campus passing the church tower
  4. Still keep right crossing the bridge to Maynnoth University Library
  5. Cross the road into the new campus and follow the one way circle
  6. Leave the one way circle first chance you can go left and make it back to Maynooth Center
  7. Take the left after the traffic lights at manormills and run to the end
  8. Turn right at the girls school and make your way to Carton
  9. Stay on the avenue and run straight not leaving the road until you reach the first road
  10. Cross the road
  11. Keep running until the next big road at the end of the golf course pass through the gate
  12. Cross the road
  13. At the canal turn right and stay with the canal until the next bridge
  14. Run up the ramp and turn left leaving the Glenroyal  behand you
  15. run back to Lidl Parking lot

Enjoy!

Why should I run a marathon ?

Why should i run a marathon ?

Considering that the first person ever to run a marathon died and that Chuck Norris did not run a marathon this is a fair question to ask. I've run two marathons now, Dublin 2013 in 3:58, Frankfurt 2014 in 4:06 and for me Marathon running was the start of a better life. Since i became a marathon runner i am more fit, a better example to my stepson & stepdaughter, have more money in the bank and i am more happy all around. If those reasons are not good enough for you, be my guest.

Starting strength routine:

30 Day Free Abs challenge

The free 30 day Abs challenge on the itunes store caught my eye when I realized that i had to add more dedicated training to attack my abs. More challenging than expected I incorporated it as a warm up for my weightlifting. I was so satisfied that I bought the full version.
