Stronglifts and Keto

You can combine Stronglifts with the keto diet to lose weight while gaining strength. The main drain on strength comes from a caloric deficit. You don’t need to go on one me when on keto. While keto and Stronglifts will get good results for strength gains and weight loss it is unlikely to get ripped. This takes usually more extreme measures.

Can you do Stronglifts 5x5 with dumbbells?

Stronglifts can be done with dumbbells except for the back squat. Therefore I prefer adjustable kettlebells for doing Stronglifts at home as you can replicate all movements. Ideally, you rethink why you do not want to do Stronglifts 5x5 like it was intended. This article walks you through and -you can contact me via pascal@marathon-crossfit.com for questions.

Can you do Stronglifts twice a week?

You can train twice a week on Stronglifts. If you want to do this, be prepared that you will not get the same results as others. It is also a lot more likely that you will quit the program. If you want to train only twice a week due to a lack of time I have some ideas for you. If you want to train only twice a week because of other training commitments, rethink whether you want to detract from that main sport with a half-assed strength cycle.

Deadlift: When to use chalk

Chalk needs to be used when your grip fails during the deadlift or the knurling of the barbells has worn down. It is most effective for your most strenuous deadlift attempts. This can be for maximum repetitions or weight. Compared to other options to help your grip chalk is cheap and versatile. Do not use baby powder as a supplement for chalk. It lubricates instead of improving grip. To minimize the mess chalk makes use a chalk ball. The article explains how to apply chalk and what different options you can choose from.

Smolov vs Stronglifts 5x5

Programs and anything you do regarding training has to be seen in context to the goal set you are pursuing. I have done both Smolov and Stronglifts 5x5 myself after I changed my main training focus from endurance to strength chasing a 200kg squat, 230kg deadlift and 180 kg bench press at 80kg bodyweight. If you read any material comparing programs, make sure that the author spent some time on putting the programs into context so that they understand the big picture rather than just crunching the numbers. This will be different for each individual based on many factors like age, training and injury history, sleep, nutrition, genetics and stress levels.
